Unexpected!
Hit Dave Davies @ City Winery. It was not unlike the Coney Island thing, but smaller (nyc property is a tad more $$$ per square foot). Same concept: parking lot. In effect, the parking lot behind City Winery. All things considered, not bad. Lined up @ 4 ish, in @ 5, started @ 5:37, nice. Sun for the first 30 mins, then in the shade, ahhhhhhh. No opener, the space was valid until 7:30 (indoor concert started then). Guy from the Jayhawks (who were playing inside and played on Dave's new record) did a guest vocal. Really a good night. Was right up front. Dave was in great shape for someone who had a stroke-voice shot, a lil' slow, but pushing 70 and still playing the songs he knew we wanted to hear. Nice. AND, he genuinely was enjoying playing live!!!!! New album, doesn't suck. Try THAT after having a stroke!
AND, he made a point of dedicating a song to Ray, telling the crowd they DON'T hate each other, but families fight. Might there be a Kinks reunion? Ray's voice + his playing=an amazing band n'est pas?
Crowd was well behaved, really had a great time. My kind'a timing: doors @ 5, show @ 5:30, over by 7:30. In @ a reasonable hour.
